Thirty years ago the average car included 21 grades of steel. Today, that same car includes 121 grades of steel. Welding this wider variety of metal weights, gauges, and qualities has an impact on every stage of the automotive production process. It’s hard on equipment, and also creates challenges to everyone involved. Not just for the MIG welders and TIG welders on the factory floor, but also the engineers and project managers designing the workflow and crunching the numbers.
